Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has been a longtime friend of Jordan Brand, and the shoe brand is celebrating that association with the release of the Air Jordan 36 El Matador Edition. The sneakers will pay homage to Doncic’s forgotten nickname, El Matador.
Air Jordan 36 El Matador will enter the shoe market on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Luka diehards can easily get their hands on the sneakers at Nike’s official shopping website and other outlets. Each pair will cost $200.
Nike’s Air Jordan 36 El Matador Colorway Is The Perfect Tribute To Luka Doncic
Earlier in July 2022, Jordan Brand launched the “Luka” colorway of its AJ36 silhouette, which would have been dedicated to the 23-year-old NBA star. The exclusive version of the player’s shoes stunned sneakerheads due to its attractive design. The new “El Matador” colorway was teased by Nike recently, and it looks like fans are now curious to see what the brand has come up with this time around.
The upcoming sneakers feature a Chili Red, University Red, Metallic Gold and Black color scheme, a nod to Luka’s playing days with Real Madrid.
While the uppers are mostly comprised of Chili Red and Metallic Gold, the strategic placement of the Black elements helps make the shoes even more eye-catching. The heavy metallic gold details that embellish the upper are inspired by a traditional bullfighter’s costume. These red and gold costumes are known as traje de luces and are an important part of Spanish culture.
Red knit textiles are used to construct the toe areas, which are topped with intricate gold patterns that run the length of the shoe. In addition, the patterns are underlined in black, which gives a funky and graphic look.
Black eyelets surround the solid red tabs. Perforated tabs are topped with criss-cross speckled lace ties with red and black detailing. In addition, the aiguillettes of these laces are adorned with golden trimmings.
Front and back, the tongue flaps and heel counters have pull tabs. The pull tabs placed on the tongues also feature fine gold designs, while those on the heel areas feature the ‘El Matador’ lettering woven onto them.
The player’s nickname is also added to the back of the tabs. All typography has a gold finish. Heel counters feature Nike Air swoosh branding to the toe of the black pull tabs.
Additionally, the inner liners and insole are also meticulously crafted with black textiles. The insole has black insoles printed with gold Jumpman insignia. When you take a closer look at the shoe, you’ll see the midfoot area is embossed with the Jumpman logo.
The semi-translucent red sole completes the design of the shoe. On the platform, they again feature the black Jumpman logos.
Air Jordan 36 El Matador will be available for purchase beginning August 31, 2022. Nike, along with a few other authorized retailers, will list these sneakers for $200 each.
