McGregor, 33, is one for a flash buy these days and loves to show off his collection of yachts, estates, watches and suits.

Before his world titles, he dreamed of buying a “mansion” for his mother and a series of cars for his girlfriend Dee Devlin.

He has succeeded on both counts.

In the clip, which was recorded in 2013 between his victories over Max Holloway and Diego Brandao, McGregor summed up his ambitions – and what it would cost to achieve them.

He said: “I lost my mind making this game, like Vincent van Gogh.

“He dedicated his life to his art and lost his mind in the process – it happened to me.

“But shit … when that golden belt is around my waist, when my mom has a big mansion, my girlfriend has a different car for each day of the week, my kids’ kids have whatever they want . ..

“Then it will pay off. So I’m glad I lost my mind. I’ll die a crazy old man.”

Ahead of his rematch with Dustin Poirier on Fight Island in January, McGregor was handed these quotes almost eight years later and was asked to reflect on how they made him feel.

He said: “It was a trick, I did it.

I wouldn’t want it to be any other way

“I’m up there, crazy as a paintbrush. I’ve been through everything my friend.

“I enjoy it and it’s been a wild ride for me, it hasn’t been easy sometimes but what a life – and I’m telling you what, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

“I am very excited to be back here, I just feel invigorated.”

Since those words, McGregor has had a rough year inside the Octagon.

He would suffer a second-round TKO loss to Poirier, before losing again when the pair clashed in July – suffering a horrific tibia fracture in the process.

However, Mystic Mac is still hungry for success and even shared a bizarre clip of himself watching old nemesis Holloway through his TV as the American was set to face Yair Rodriguez over the weekend.

UFC president Dana White played down a rematch between the two, while former title challenger Chael Sonnen called McGregor a “rich little nutcase” for the video he posted.
