Calcutta: Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) will upgrade the Salt Lake Central Park Fairgrounds which has been named ‘Boi Mela Prangan’. Authorities plan to complete the work before winter when several fairs including the Kolkata International Book Fair will be held in the city.
Renovation works will include repair of damaged pavement and construction of new pavements, repair and replacement of damaged water distribution pipes, upgrading of drainage pipes and installation of additional toilet blocks. These plans were discussed during the latest inspection conducted by government agencies such as BMC, KMDA, Fire Services, Bidhannagar Police and representatives from the Publishers and Booksellers Guild.
Other proposals mooted for the facelift of the land include the construction of watchtowers at its four corners, plus CCTV the installation, the ramp-up of fire-fighting systems and drinking water installations and the construction of a pedestrian metro to connect the car park to the book fair.
“It will take time for the proposals to materialize. From now on, our priority is to upgrade the existing infrastructure of the ground,” an official said. Guild officials said the artist suvaprasanna designs the calligraphy ‘Boi Mela Prangan’ which will be finalized by the CM.
