Paris Hilton and Jimmy Fallon’s Awkward NFT Conversation Viewed Over 5 Million Times

Paris Hilton’s recent appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon goes viral after the pair had a pretty awkward and downright nonsensical conversation about NFTs.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, have become a bizarre status symbol and have sparked a lot of debate in recent months as many internet users struggle to see their apparent value.

Hilton and Fallon, both multi-millionaires, bought “Bored Ape” NFTs – randomly generated cartoon monkeys that are apparently digital assets, with the late-night host paying $200,000 to buy his own.

These “Bored Apes” are both online avatars and access to an online social club.

NFTs have become increasingly popular over the past year as artists and public figures have explored other ways to generate income or invest during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s your monkey!” Fallon exclaims in the clip displaying an image of Hilton’s NFT. Hilton then says, “I’ve been through a lot. I was like, I want something that kinda reminds me of me. But this one does.”

The segment makes for very dry viewing, with audience applause failing to convince viewers that this moment wasn’t incredibly painful to watch.

The clip went viral on Twitter where it was much ridiculed.

the Tonight’s show shared the clip, which has amassed over 700,000 views, while the @WinkyChrist Twitter account also shared it, garnering 5.3 million views at the time of posting.

“The lack of joy in this conversation is really very touching. I’ll think about it for a while,” one tweet read.

Another added, “This is the most tasteless exchange I’ve ever seen in my life lol.”

Influencer James Kavanagh tweeted: “Is NFT some kind of global prank on me? Why are people all of a sudden talking about buying sh*te clipart? Surely that’s the real pandemic.”

Screenwriter Zach Kornfeld added: “That clip of Paris and Jimmy talking about their NFTs is just the most deeply uncomfortable and pathetic thing I’ve ever seen?? A real culture is a dead moment, it’s almost beautiful if you squint very hard.”

While another added: “I’m pretty sure someone has dirt on every celebrity that enters NFTs because this clip is just WEIRD. it really feels like they are being held hostage lmfao wtf go on.”

Hilton’s appearance on The show tonight comes like the heiress podcast Trapped in processing is ready for release.
