While “Things” might be the heir apparent to “Manos: The Hands of Fate,” it might face competition from that unlikely sequel released over 50 years later and just as terrible. Led by actress Jackey Neyman Jones (Debbie from the original “Manos”) and crowdfunding via Kickstarter“The return of Manosfollows four friends who once again become lost and trapped in the Master’s evil house and must try to escape.
The only other original cast members to return, besides Jones, are Tom Neyman (again playing “The Master”) and Diane Adelson (as matriarch Maggie). Torgo appears in the new movie, but is now played by actor Steven Shields… who looks less like the original Torgo than you do. But that’s the least of the film’s problems.
The main problem, besides the bad visuals, audio, story, etc., is that “Manos Returns” also tries to be a comedy. When a bad movie knows it’s bad, it makes it considerably less fun, and anyone who’s had to endure a bad open-mic night knows that nothing is more crushing than forced, incompetent comedy. In a way, this might make “Manos Returns” worse than the original; at least the original was sincere.
Over the years, the hosts of “MST3K” have passed the torch to others; so it seems normal that they also transmit the duties of suffering through a “Manos” film.
