If you’re interested in a new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe midsize SUV, picking a trim level can be tricky. However, Santa Fe calligraphy is attractive because it includes just about every feature. Unfortunately, it is also the most expensive version of the Hyundai SUV. Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy really worth $2,000 more than the Limited version, or should you buy something else?

What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe calligraphy?

First, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy is the most premium trim level. Edmunds says it starts at $42,705, about $14,000 more than the base SE model. However, the Calligraphy trim is as close to luxury as you’ll get from the Hyundai midsize SUV. It is a very well equipped model, but it is placed only one place above the Limited version.

In addition to the features included with the lower models, Calligraphy gets more. For example, 20-inch wheels, unique exterior trim, premium leather seats with quilted stitching, ambient interior lighting, faux suede headliner and head-up display. These are the only improvements that the highest version of the Santa Fe gets over its predecessor. Do you think it’s worth upgrading?

Alternatively, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited is slightly more affordable than the Calligraphy version. Plus, it’s almost as luxurious as the top model. More importantly, it’s the cheapest model in the lineup to get the upgraded turbocharged engine.

In addition, under the hood of the Limited models, there is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The Santa Fe uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with lower trims, producing just 191 hp and 181 lb-ft. Of course, that’s a big reason why the Limited trim drops to $40,705 from the $34,045 XRT below.

However, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited adds many more features. The following items are standard:

  • 19 inch rims
  • Upgraded LED headlights
  • Parking sensors
  • Improved driver’s seat with memory settings
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated rear seats
  • Panoramic camera system
  • blind spot camera
  • Rain sensing wipers
  • Automated parking system

Although the Calligraphy trim is top of the line, does it justify the extra money? We don’t think the top end makes it any better than the Santa Fe Limited. Also, buyers looking for the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe trim that’s luxurious but bang for the buck should stick with the Limited trim. It has the upgraded engine in addition to valuable features like heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and other upgrades that owners will love.

Alternatively, the calligraphy pattern doesn’t add much value at all. Slightly larger wheels, exterior trim, interior lighting, upgraded leather, faux-suede headliner and head-up display aren’t worth the $2,000, in our opinion. Most of them are mere visual enhancements that add no functional value.

Buy the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited, not the Calligraphy

In conclusion, Hyundai’s midsize SUV offers two luxury trim levels. Purchasing the Limited or Calligraphy finish provides landowners with many features and conveniences. However, one is a huge upgrade over lesser models without breaking the bank as much. The premium Calligraphy isn’t worth the extra $2,000 over the Santa Fe Limited version, so we’d recommend stopping at $40,705.
