A new Cowboy Bebop clip features Spike, Jet, and Faye at a restaurant discussing the attempt to capture eco-terrorists who attacked Faye.
The first excerpt from Cowboy Bebop shows the main characters Spike, Jet and Faye at a dinner discussing bounty hunting and more before the premiere. Cowboy Bebop is a live-action adaptation of the classic animated series of the same name, following bounty hunter Spike Siegel and his friends on various adventures on their spaceship, the Bebop. The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on November 19 with ten episodes.
The new series will star John Cho, Mustafa Shakir and Daniella Pineda as Spike, Jet and Faye, respectively. The series is written by Christopher Yost, screenwriter of Thor: Ragnorok, and The Mandalorian. The cast also includes two corgi dogs who play the Bebop’s pet, Ein.
Now, Netflix Geek tweeted a two-and-a-half-minute clip featuring the three main protagonists. The clip begins with Spike and Jet in a restaurant discussing the functions of a bidet, Jet misunderstanding the use of the item. They are then interrupted by Faye, who explains that she has just been attacked by eco-terrorists who can turn people into trees but can be easily tracked down by her, allowing the group to easily earn money from the bounty hunt. The series is not a direct remake but an adaptation of the original Cowboy Bebop, which has become a staple of anime as an art form and has inspired countless other projects including Joss Whedon’s Firefly. New Cowboy Bebop has already received mixed to negative reviews from critics, with its Rotten tomatoes score currently sitting at 46%. The series has been called a soulless retread in the past, with many aspects criticized, such as the writing, editing and effects, with some praise for the cast.
The original Cowboy BebopThe success of has come from his experimentation with genre, daring themes and memorable characters. The remake has critics citing it as yet another Americanized remake of a Japanese property that misunderstands the basic ingredients of the initial work, with the American remakes of Death threat, Dark water, and The Grudge as additional examples. American cinema has long had the unfortunate habit of taking foreign properties rented out for their uniqueness and turning them into more bland fodder to make money. In 1998, Cowboy Bebop has left a mark on pop culture, with everything from its style to its soundtrack considered exemplary of the genre, and although the Cowboy Bebop the remake is already designed to be underwhelming, perhaps it will encourage new fans to experience the unique charm of the original for themselves.
