Chapters of Audubon Society to host Chagrin River Bird Quest – News-Herald


Two locals of the National Audubon Society challenge bird enthusiasts to safely explore the Chagrin River valley and find as many bird species as possible as part of the Seventh Annual Sorrow River Bird Quest.

Bird alone or in a team and records species over a 24-hour period from 4 p.m. Sept. 10 to 4 p.m. Sept. 11, according to a press release. Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland and Blackbrook Audubon Society co-sponsor this bird watching event which includes parts of Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga and Portage counties.

All Bird Quest activities and materials are free, but registration on is required by September 10th.

Team registration will be 4-6 p.m. on September 10 at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Russell Township. Each registration package will have a map, checklist, list of scheduled walks and T-shirts. Teams must submit their checklists for assessment by 4:00 p.m. on September 11.

Blackbrook Audubon will lead a walk at Chagrin River Park at 9 a.m. on September 11. All teams are welcome and even those not registered for Bird Quest can participate in this walk, which will start at the entrance to the rural road at 1000 rural road in Eastlake. .

This year’s quest celebration will take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on September 11 at the West Woods Nature Center. Audubon will award prizes to the most species overall, the most warblers seen, the most habitats visited and on behalf of the most creative team, the statement said.
