Balenciaga’s SS22 show was a special episode of The Simpsons Womenswear

Balenciaga continues to distort and subvert the format of a fashion show, sending its models to the red carpet this season in front of waiting paps as they enter the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris ahead of an undisclosed screening.

As attendees including Cardi B, Offset, Elliott Page, Isabelle Huppert and ’90s models Naomi Campbell and Amber Valletta entered the room with full Balenciaga looks, guests cheered and cheered as they took their seats. Soon it became clear what the screening was, as the lights dimmed and the strains of the Simpsons theme melody kicked in.

What followed was a special ten-minute episode of the cult cartoon, which saw Homer pick up one of Demna Gavaslai’s green dresses for Marge’s birthday after finding her coveting her.

Cut to the Georgian designer himself taking a private jet to Springfield to sort his ‘private-in-style’ residents with warm Balenciaga clothes, and Chef Wiggum, l Patty and Selma, and Smithers – in an all-red sequined look – walking down the Paris track, and the assembled crowd watching them go wild.

The collection itself consisted of Balenciaga classics, including XXL down jackets, puffy suits, huge off-the-shoulder dresses and coats, ’90s dad-inspired denim jeans, and Clip-Art print dresses.

After stepping out in a bunch of Schiaparelli looks earlier this week, Cardi donned a floral coat and couture beekeeper hat combo to take her turn on the red run. With the crowd whispering “Is that her?” The only thing that revealed it was Offset walking in front of her.

Page, meanwhile, put on a new hardcore Croc-style show for a try, and even Anna Wintour stepped into the action in a chintzy, biased number.

Keep an eye out for Dazed for more on the show.
