MARBLEHEAD – Alice Mary Beusch Willett, 93, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, May 16, 2022, after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard LeRoy Willett for 55 years of marriage and a resident of Marblehead since 1968 when the family moved into their forever home.
Alice was born on July 31, 1928 in Saint-Jean, Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Gustave D. and Josephine S. Beusch and grew up in Canada. She is a graduate of McGill University and the Yale University School of Nursing. She was an active and dedicated nurse clinician in New Haven, Boston, and the Boston North Shore, also participating in the Nurses’ Health Study. Alice was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother with a great interest in the welfare and activities of her family. She always thought of others before herself and always had a flair for understated elegance in fashion and art. She had passions for environmental activism, animal welfare, collecting and appreciating the visual arts, travel and gardening. She enjoyed spending time in the cool ocean air, swimming, listening to classical music, and learning how to use new technologies.
She leaves behind her son, Dr. Christopher G. Willett and her daughter-in-law, Dr. Mary E. Sunday of Durham, North Carolina, her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Julian and Ashlan Willett, and her granddaughter, Yanan Qi. She was the mother of the late Elisa J. Willett and the sister of the late Ann Beusch and the late George Beusch. She was also the aunt of nieces and nephews – Joanne M. Beusch, Dr. Pamela Beusch Moser and her husband Dr. Joseph Moser, the late Edwin Beusch, the late George Beusch Jr. and his wife, Christina Beusch, Charles H. Beusch, and Margaret M. Beusch Klein.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street. Interment will follow at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Alice MB Willett may be sent to The Humane Society or the Environmental Defense Fund. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared at for the Willett family.
