A visual storyteller’s rendezvous with NFT

It’s NFT time in Kochi’s ever-changing art world. After two consecutive NFT group exhibitions, a young visual artist holds Kerala’s first solo physical NFT exhibition in Naseef Gafoor, a native of Ponnani of Malappuram district, showcases his four main series of artworks in the show titled ” Every ray is an escape. The show takes place at Durbar Hall from July 20-24.

Gafoor, 32, identifies as a storyteller and it was his thirst for storytelling that led him to explore and focus his passion on NFT.

By profession, Naseef is a freelance photographer and director who mainly works for various advertising agencies. He mainly specializes in architectural and product photography and makes brand films, short content videos, stop motions, cinemagraphs, etc.

Juggling between tight schedules of filming and projects does not prevent him from pursuing his true passion. He constantly took the time to play with new notions and ideas using still photographs for now augmented reality. Her entire artistic journey has been guided by a pure desire to tell different and unique stories.

Naseef’s works have previously been exhibited at Utopian Dystopia – the art, design and technology festival held in Kochi. Two of the series from the ‘Every ray is an escape. Just peep’ with the title ‘Shades of You, World of Yin & Yang’, are photographs composed of eight photographs each. The third series titled “The Parallel World” features videos on four screens and the final series “Portrait of a Canvas” uses the latest in augmented reality technology.

Naseef is a keen observer, and when it comes to photography, his eye for detail and depiction of things in minimalist settings is evident in his work, whether professional or personal. The advancement of the digital medium has allowed him to explore more ways of storytelling. Only a year has passed since he discovered the greatest storytelling potential of NFTs and his first NFT release was in July 2021. It only took him a few months to sell six of his works.

His shift to new age and NFT platforms largely reflects his idea of ​​ownership and accessibility of artworks. “Creating stories through advertising is a totally different concept. As a concept-based mixed media artist, I found this platform to be very creative and engaging, you can learn from artists around the world, create a community that shares new ideas and expresses the value of the art you’ve created, and of course, your art travels the universe, finds a good market, and ownership is legitimate here.’ says Naseef on the merits of the crypto art.
